Falstaff, Giuseppe VerdiĀ?s last masterpiece, in a new staging by Daniele Abbado at the Teatro Lirico, Cagliari
At the Teatro Lirico, Cagliari, the 2008 Opera and Ballet season continues with its second performance: Falstaff, an operatic comedy in three acts with libretto by Arrigo Boito, taken from the comedy The Merry Wives Of Windsor and scenes from Henry IV by William Shakespeare, music by Giuseppe Verdi, in a new staging by the Teatro Lirico, Cagliari.
Verdi’s masterpiece will be performed by two prestigious casts of singers who will alternate for the performances: Michele Pertusi/Harry Peeters (3rd, 7th) (Sir John Falstaff), Luca Salsi/Enrico Maria Marabelli (3rd, 7th) (Ford), Celso Albelo/Daniele Zanfardino (3rd, 7th) (Fenton), Gianluca Floris (Dottor Cajus), Bruno Lazzaretti (Bardolfo), Francesco Palmieri (Pistola), Myrtò Papatanasiu/Serena Farnocchia (3rd, 7th) (Mrs Alice Ford), Katarzyna Dondalska/Rosanna Savoia (3rd, 7th) (Nannetta), Elena Zilio (Mrs. Quickly), Marina Comparato (Mrs. Meg Page).
The new staging in Cagliari is directed by the esteemed Daniele Abbado, Graziano Gregori has been entrusted with the scenography, Carla Teti with the costumes, while the lights are arranged by Luigi Saccomandi.
The Teatro Lirico Orchestra and Chorus will be directed by Gabriele Ferro. The Chorus Master is Fulvio Fogliazza.
Falstaff will be performed on the following dates:
- Friday 30th May, 8.30pm – Session A
- Sunday 1st June, 5pm – Session D
- Tuesday 3rd June, 8.30pm – Session F
- Wednesday 4th June, 8.30pm – Session B
- Friday 6th June, 8.30pm – Session C
- Saturday 7th June, 7pm – Session G
- Sunday 8th June, 5pm – Session E
The 2008 Opera and Ballet Season is subsidized by the Fondazione Banco di Sardegna, Poste Italiane, Energit S.p.A. and is accomplished in collaboration with the Azienda e Vigneto Feudi della Medusa.

Giuseppe Verdi’s Falstaff on stage at the Teatro Lirico, Cagliari
Due to strike called for by the Associazioni Sindacali Libersind Conf. S.A.L. and Snater for the 30th May and the 4th June, the opening night of Giuseppe Verdi’s opera Falstaff will be performed accompanied by the piano. Gaetano Mastroiaco, piano.
Ticket holders who do not wish to attend the performance will be able to exchange their tickets for a different session, while tickets last.
