Love, triumph and death in Aida by Giuseppe Verdi at the Teatro Lirico di Cagliari

On Friday 17th July at 9pm (session A), Aida, melodrama in four acts will be staged for the 2009 Opera and Ballet Season at the Teatro Lirico di Cagliari, with libretto by Antonio Ghislanzoni and music by Giuseppe Verdi, in a staging by the Teatro Lirico di Cagliari, which goes back to July 2003.

Two prestigious casts will alternate for the performances: Daniela Dessì/Chiara Taigi (19th, 22nd, 2th5) (Aida), Walter Fraccaro/Piero Giuliacci (22nd, 25th) (Radamès), Irina Mishura/Tiziana Carraro (22nd, 25th) (Amneris), Riccardo Zanellato/Roberto Tagliavini (22nd, 2th5) (Ramfis), Angelo Veccia/Pietro Park (22nd, 25th) (Amonasro), Rafal Siwek (The King), Gianluca Floris (A messenger), Sara Allegretta/Susanna Carboni (25th) (A priestess).

Asher Fisch conducts the Teatro Lirico Orchestra and Chorus. Fulvio Fogliazza is the Chorus Master.

The staging originally produced by Stephen Medcalf is by Marco Carniti, set design and costumes by Jamie Vartan, who is known to the audience in Cagliari for the production of Romeo e Giulietta del villaggio by Delius in April 2002 and for Carmen by Bizet in July 2005. The production is a new interpretation performed from a nineteenth century point of view of Ancient Eygpt which is the setting for the conflicting sentimental happenings of Aida, Radamès, Amneris e Amonasro. Lighting design by Giuseppe Di Iorio. Choreography by Gloria Pomardi.

Aida will be performed:

- Sunday 19th July at 9pm (session D),
- Tuesday 21st July at 9pm (session B),
- Wednesday 22nd July at 9pm (session F),
- Friday 24th July at 9pm (session C),
- Saturday 25th July at 9pm (session G),
- Sunday 26th July at 9pm (session E).
