The 2007-2008 Opera and Ballet Season at the Teatro Lirico di Cagliari introduces two definitely memorable evenings for its fifteenth performance:
Wednesday 27th February at 8.30pm (turn A) and
Thursday 28th February at 8.30pm (turn B).
Martha Argerich, the outstanding and famous piano virtuoso, returns to Cagliari after exactly forty years, to perform Concerto n. 3 by Sergej Prokof’ev with
the Teatro Lirico Orchestra, conducted by
Pedro Ignacio Calderón. There will also be the pianist
Nelson Goerner who will perform Concerto n. 4 by Ludwig van Beethoven. the three artists wish to dedicate this concert to Scaramuzza under whom they all studied.In fact the evevning is entitled:
A Tribute to Vincenzo Scaramuzza.
Martha Argerich performed Concerto n. 1 by Fryderyk Chopin in Cagliari on the 23rd February 1968 at the Teatro Massimo, with the Orchestra dell’Istituzione dei Concerti conducted by Peter Maag.
Wednesday and Thursdays musical programme includes:
Leonore no.3 in C major op. 72, Concerto no. 4 in G major for piano and orchestra op. 58 by Ludwig van Beethoven;
Colas Breugnon op. 24 by Dmitrij Kabalevskij;
Concerto no. 3 in C major for piano and orchestra op. 26 by Sergej Prokof’ev.
The Tribute to Vincenzo Scaramuzza event, a series of ten concerts in five Italian cities (Milan, Rome, Crotone, Cagliari and Naples), was created in order for musicians and the public alike to pay their respects to a musician who established one of the greatest piano schools that has ever existed, alongside the French and Russian ones, keeping the art of Italian piano playing at the highest of standards. The two most renowned representatives of the ‘Scaramuzzian’ school were chosen for this tribute, amongst the greatest ambassadors of international piano playing: Martha Argerich, who studied under Scaramuzza, and Nelson Goerner, who studied there too. Two generations of musicians who provide living proof of Scaramuzza’s legacy.
