Expectation and excitement for the Filarmonica della Scala, conducted by Lorin Maazel, at theVIII Festival di Sant’Efisio
Excitement is rising for the Filarmonica della Scala concert, conducted by Lorin Maazel, who will be performing for one evening, sold out for weeks, on Monday 5th May at 8.30pm (session B) for the VIII Festival di Sant’Efisio at the Teatro Lirico di Cagliari.
The programme includes: Ludwig van Beethoven’s Seventh Symphony in A major op. 92 and Petr Il’ič Čaikovskij’s Fourth Symphony in F minor op. 36. Ludwig van Beethoven (Bonn, 1770 – Vienna, 1827) composed his Seventh Symphony during 1811/1812. Among the countless and prestigious critical essays published, Richard Wagner’s stands out. Regarding this work Wagner wrote in “L’Opera d’arte dell’avvenire” “ The Symphony is the Apotheosis of the Dance itself: it is Dance in its highest aspect, the loftiest deed of bodily motion, incorporated into an ideal mould of tone. In his works Beethoven brought the body into music, realising a fusion between the body and mind.” After the interval, the second part of the concert is dedicated to Petr Il’ič Čaikovskij’s Fourth Symphony in F minor op. 36 composed in 1877. After composing the Fourth Symphony, Čaikovskij (Kamsko-Votkinsk, 1840 - St Petersburg, 1893), took a break from composing symphonies for over ten years (the Fifth was composed in 1888) due to the obsession he still had regarding his dramatic private life, which comes across in his highly emotional music. The Festival of Sant'Efisio is subsidized by the Regione Autonoma della Sardegna, Fondazione Banco di Sardegna, Poste Italiane, Energit S.p.A. and is accomplished in collaboration with the Azienda e Vigneto Feudi della Medusa.
