La macchina delle meraviglie: set construction on show in the stalls foyer at the Teatro Lirico di Cagliari
From Thursday 8th April to Wednesday 12th May the Teatro Lirico presents the exhibition La macchina delle meraviglie the set construction used in Orphée aux Enfers by Jacques Offenbach. The exhibition is part of the X Festival di Sant’Efisio at the Teatro Lirico di Cagliari.
An imaginary journey backwards in time, through the intriguing emotions and enticing atmosphere of the production Orphée aux Enfers, masterpiece by Jacques Offenbach, which was the closing opera of the 2007 Opera and Ballet Season at the Teatro Lirico di Cagliari.
The bright foyer becomes the “new stage” for the wooden desks, the typewriters, the enormous blackboards, the spectacular setting for the entrance of the Public Opinion; the pissoir, a ‘duchampian’ memento; Jupitor king of the Gods’ toilet; the fantastic cart of suitcases suspended in the air, propelled by swallows, and for the gigantic, foul-smelling pipe – the fantastic Parisian cloaca - of which John Styx was in charge, along with a handful of mice, sewer rats and insects of all types.
The X Festival di Sant’Efisio offers the public a special occasion for re-living and appreciating a theatrical production, which was created and realized entirely by the artistic and technical groups of the Teatro Lirico di Cagliari.
The Teatro Lirico’s stalls foyer proves itself once again as an important city meeting place and an area for the enjoyment of art: the spaces that are larger than were planned in the original architectural project and the lighting that has been adapted to the newly painted and perfectly clear walls allow the theatre’s dimensions to be exploited to the full.
The X Festival di Sant’Efisio is subsidized by the Assessorato al Turismo della Regione Autonoma della Sardegna and by the Fondazione Banco di Sardegna.
