Da Tąpies a Chillida grafica originale. The visual project continues at the Teatro Lirico di Cagliari
From Friday 27th November 2009 until Saturday 30th January 2010, the stalls foyer at the Teatro Lirico di Cagliari hosts the visual project MAT – musica arte teatro, the exhibition Da Tàpies a Chillida – grafica originale for the fourth appointment.
An articulated exhibition which includes sculptures, prints and graphic art from a variety of origins, proving that the value and the cultural depth of sculpture, which started out as a “minor art form” has found itself in a leading position in the international panorama; thanks also to the contribution of innovative sculpting techniques that increase and exalt the value and the quality of the traditional methods. 42 works on display, which represent most thoroughly the various and important seasons of the world’s figurative art and of the many trends: pop, minimal, poor art, ‘transavanguardia italiana’ and fluxus. Exhibiting numerous artists from diverse nationalities and cultures; from the more well known who have made the history of contemporary art, to less well-known names to the vast public, but no less authoritative and relevant: Shusaku Arakawa, James Brown, Sandro Chia, Henning Christiansen, Christo, Francesco Clemente, Tony Cragg, Enzo Cucchi, Walter Dahn, Martin Disler, Jiri Georg Dokoupil, Keith Haring, Jorg Immendorff, Donald Judd, Per Kirkeby, Imi Knobel, Jannis Kounellis, Sol LeWitt, Richard Long, Robert Longo, Robert Mapplethorpe, Bruce McLean, Nam June Paik, Mimmo Paladino, A. R. Penck, Arnulf Rainer, Juliâo Sarmento, Cindy Sherman, Emilio Vedova and Andy Warhol, as well as, naturally Antoni Tàpies and Eduardo Chillida, amply present with their sculptures and prints. This is an excellent occasion therefore to fully appreciate an inspiring exhibition, offering the chance to admire the variety of techniques used and to observe the modernity and freshness. MAT – musica arte teatro is a new visual project of the Teatro Lirico di Cagliari, curated by Gabriella Locci, who represents the Ministry of Cultural Heritage and Environmental Conservation on the Teatro Lirico’s board of directors. The project began in December 2007 with the exhibition entitled ritratto/autoritratto: declinazioni d’artista, followed in May 2008 with Costantino Nivola: un artista, una vita and in May 2009, with Piccolo Atlante della Sardegna - La collezione Soddu-Tanda. It continues with this tribute to graphic design and sculpture dedicated to contemporary art. The stalls foyer at the Theatre once again The stalls foyer of the theatre proves itself once again to be an important town meeting point and an area for enjoying art: the spaces which are in fact larger than the original architectural project and the lighting, well-suited to the freshly-painted and almost bare walls, provide breathing room and allow for an appropriate use of the theatre’s dimensions. The Teatro Lirico’s commitment to spread culture and to promote interesting exhibitions for an ever more curious and attentive public continues through the “original graphic art of well known and much loved artists”. It represents another occasion to spotlight innovative moments coherent to the real world and to the modern society the Teatro Lirico could not do without. (Maurizio Pietrantonio, chief executive of the Teatro Lirico di Cagliari) The foyer of the Teatro Lirico di Cagliari, has taken the role of exhibition space with the MAT Project. Forty-two pieces of graphic art which represent actuality; relate the differences of history and culture; speak of civil commitment; narrate poetry or pathos, using techniques such as exploration of aesthetics or binding the work to poetry in order to identify it. (Gabriella Locci, who represents the Ministry of Cultural Heritage and Environmental Conservation on the Teatro Lirico’s board of directors) The opening ceremony for the exhibition is on Friday 27th November 2009 at 6pm. The exhibition catalogue, edited by Grafiche Ghiani, includes a presentation by Gabriella Locci, and a critical text by the collector Brita Prinz, the colour illustrations of all the works on show, the biography of all the artists and files of the three collections that the works belong to.
