L’elisir d’amore by Gaetano Donizetti in a new production by the Teatro Lirico di Cagliari
Thursday 22nd October at 8.30pm (session A), is the opening night for L’elisir d’amore, part of the 2009 Opera and Ballet Season at the Teatro Lirico di Cagliari, a comic melodrama in two acts with libretto by Felice Romani, from Le Philtre by Eugène Scribe and with music by Gaetano Donizetti. A new production by the Teatro Lirico di Cagliari.
Michele Mirabella created and directs this new production, with the participation of Giovanni Licheri, responsible for the set design and Alida Cappellini for the costumes. Franco Ferrari is lighting designer. Two prestigious casts alternate for the performances: Désirée Rancatore/Elisabetta Scano (23rd, 26th) (Adina), Celso Albelo/YiJie Shi (23rd, 26th) (Nemorino), Roberto De Candia/Fabio Previati (23rd, 26th) (Belcore), Bruno De Simone/Simone Alberghini (23rd, 26th) (Dulcamara), Manuela Bisceglie (Giannetta). Antonino Fogliani conducts the Teatro Lirico Orchestra and Chorus. Fulvio Fogliazza is the chorus master. L’elisir d’amore, premiered on 12th May 1832 at the Teatro della Canobbiana in Milan and was a great success. Donizetti elaborated his own comical style, introducing a sentimental element, untypical of the Rossinian melodrama era, which brings back the larmoyant vein of the “opera-comique”. L’elisir d’amore was first performed at the Teatro Lirico di Cagliari in June 1998. Performances: - Thursday 22nd October at 8.30pm (session A), - Friday 23rd October at 8.30pm (session F), - Sunday 25th October at 5pm (session D), - Monday 26th October at 8.30pm (session G), - Tuesday 27th October at 8.30pm (session B), - Thursday 29th October at 8.30pm (session C), - Saturday 31st October at 7pm (session E).
