The fourteenth concert of
the Teatro Lirico Concert Season 2007–2008 continues on
Monday 15th February at 8.30pm, (turn B). Following the
Maisky Duo’s concert, another fine, unforgettable and unique evening of tasteful Chamber Music will be provided by the Duo consisting of the renowned violinist
Ilya Gringolts and the pianist
Peter Laul, performing for the first time at
the Teatro Lirico di Cagliari.
The programme includes:
Sonata in A major op. 30 no. 1 by Ludwig van Beethoven;
Sonata in A minor for violin and piano op. 105 by Robert Schumann;
Sonata in A major op. 47 “The Kreutzer” by Ludwig van Beethoven.
This concert is dedicated entirely to the classical sonata instrumental compositions which were of great importance in the second half of the 18th century, thanks to Franz Joseph Haydn and to Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, but in particular due to the immense and brilliant production of Sonatas by Ludwig van Beethoven (Bonn, 1770 – Vienna, 1827). Besides the 32 well-known Sonatas for piano, Beethoven wrote op. 30 in 1802, and dedicated it to Tzar Alexander I, and began the very famous op. 47 Sonata “The Kreutzer” the same year. He completed it in May 1803, dedicating it to Rudolf Kreutzer, the brilliant violinist. Both compositions, for violin and piano possess an expressiveness and virtuosity that are unsurpassed even today.
Robert Schumann (Zwickau, Saxony, 1810 – Endenich, Bonn, 1856), romantic composer par excellence, composed the other sonata to be performed in the Cagliari concert introducing delicate sensual musical tones.
