Precious chamber music with Nikolaj Znaider and Robert Kulek. Friday 5th March at 8.30pm, for the 2009-2010 Concert Season
The 2009-2010 Concert Season at the Teatro Lirico di Cagliari continues, Friday 5th March at 8.30pm (session B), with the fifteenth appointment: the twenty-five-year-old Danish violinist Nikolaj Znaider and the Lithuanian pianist Robert Kulek perform in a unique evening of excellent chamber music.
The musical programme includes: Sonata for violin and piano by Francis Poulenc; Sonata in E flat major for violin and piano Op. 12 N. 3 by Ludwig van Beethoven; Sonatina in D major for violin and piano D. 384 by Franz Schubert; Sonata in A major for violin and piano M. 8 by César Frank. The concert is dedicated entirely to the “sonata classica”: instrumental composition which was at its utmost peak in the mid-18th Century, thanks to Franz Joseph Haydn and Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, but above all to Ludwig van Beethoven’s (Bonn, 1770 – Vienna, 1827) immense and brilliant production of his most well-known 32 Sonatas for piano, but in particular of the Three Sonatas op. 12 written in 1797-1798, dedicated to Antonio Salieri. The compositions, for violin and piano, highlight the expressiveness and virtuosity that still today remain unsurpassed. Sonatina by Franz Schubert (Lichtenthal, Vienna, 1797 – Vienna, 1828), was composed in March 1816. The piece illustrates the refined Austrian composer’s achievement of creativity. César Franck (Liegi, 1822 – Paris, 1890) composed his only Sonata for violin and piano in 1886, dedicating it to his Belgian colleague composer, Eugène Ysaÿe. Sonata composed by Francis Poulenc (Paris, 1899 - 1963) is the most recent (1942-1943) in chronological order, but will be performed as the opening piece. Poulenc’s originality and easily recognizable composing style is noticeable in this single piece of chamber music, in which the composer inserted delicate and sensual musical nuances. |
