The 2009-2010 Concert Season at the Teatro Lirico di Cagliari continues with its third appointment, Friday 13th November at 8.30pm (session A) and Saturday 14th November at 7pm (session B), the young conductor, Diego Matheuz, conducts the Teatro Lirico Orchestra. Matteuz was Claudio Abbado’s favourite pupil and “main guest conductor” of the Orchestra Mozart, and already at the young age of 25 possesses a remarkable curriculum. The exceptional German violinist, Kolja Blacher is the soloist.

The musical programme includes: Concerto in D major for violin ande orchestra op. 61 by Ludwig van Beethoven and Symphony N.4 E minor op. 98 by Johannes Brahms.

Ludwig van Beethoven (Bonn, 1770 – Vienna, 1827) composed Concerto for violin and orchestra in 1806, in approximately six months and dedicated it to his friend Stephan von Breuning. The Concerto belongs to one of Beethoven’s most creative periods; it truly expresses the composer’s enormous talent in the magnificent dialogue between the solo instrument and the orchestra. Symphony No. 4, written between 1884 and 1885 is considered to be one of the greatest masterpieces by Johannes Brahms (Hamburg, 1833 – Vienna, 1897); the last of the four symphonies that he comnposed and an outstanding example of romanticism and musical lyricism. It was first performed on 25th October 1885 in Meiningen and was conducted by the composer. It was met with great success from the public and critics, confirming it as being one of the most loved and popular pieces of 18th Century German Romanticism.
