The enchanting sacredness of The Passion of Saint John by Bach, Tuesday 18th March at 8.30pm at the Teatro Lirico di Cagliari
The 2007-2008 Concert Season at the Teatro Lirico di Cagliari continues with its twentieth date, Tuesday 18th March at 8.30pmInternationale Bachakademie Stuttgart (session A): the , consisting of the choral ensemble Gächinger Kantorei and the instrumental ensemble Bach-Collegium Stuttgart, conducted by Helmuth Rilling. They will be performing The Passion of Saint John, for soloists, chorus and orchestra BWV 245 by Johann Sebastian Bach. The soloists are: soprano Sibylla Rubens, contralto Anja Schlosser, tenors Lothar Odinius (Evangelist) and Alexander Yudenkov, and basses Jens Hamann (Christ) and Klaus Häger.
The Passion of Saint John was first performed on the 7th April 1724 in Nikolaikirche in Leipzig. It is a composition of an extremely high level, extraordinary importance and subtlety, in which the tale of the passion of Christ is related by the chorus, in all its expressive and glorifying capacity. The Cagliari concert will be the famous German ensemble’s opening concert for their Italian tour. They will also be performing on Wednesday 19th March in St. Peter’s Church in Perugia and Thursday 20th March at the Teatro Carlo Felice in Genoa. The 2007-2008 Concert Season is subsidized by the Fondazione Banco di Sardegna and is accomplished in collaboration with the Azienda e Vigneto Feudi della Medusa. |
